FloWave wins bronze award for sustainability

The team at FloWave are very pleased to be awarded bronze in recognition of sustainable measures and practices introduced into its office operations during 2016. Run as an internal competition within the University by the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability, the awards encourage staff, students and research laboratories across the University to adopt and implement best practice on sustainability and social responsibility issues. Judged by student volunteers to strict criteria, receiving an award is a great accolade for the labs, facilities and individuals that do.

Sarah Bond, FloWave’s Office Administrator, led the project said “It was great fun to meet other like-minded people across the University and to discover some really very simple ways to make a big difference. Working towards the Bronze Award brought the FloWave team to a new level of social responsibility and sustainability awareness, and we are looking forward to working towards the Silver award this year and making further contributions to the University and wider community.”

Stuart Brown, FloWave Chief Executive, said: “We’re used to receiving the occasional accolade for our work promoting ocean energy research and the development of new technologies for the sector, but it’s a really nice ‘pat on the back’ to also be recognised for the sustainable practices that we’ve been able to incorporate into the day-to-day operation of the facility. Sarah has been instrumental in bringing us through the process and is to be commended for her approach and professionalism. We’ve all played our part, but this award would not have been won without her hard work and dedication to the task!

“Looking ahead we’ll hope to progress to silver during 2017, so wish us luck with that!” he concluded.
